Jamie Henkel (she/her) is the Vice President of Learning & Inclusion at PFLAG National. She is the program’s primary learning session educator and oversees the development of new Straight for Equality publications and learning sessions. Since 2012 she has been the architect of PFLAG Academy Online, a monthly webinar program for PFLAG members. She also works with PFLAG chapters on ally engagement programming and helps to cultivate the Straight for Equality program’s online presence.
Jamie joined the PFLAG National staff in April 2008 as Operations Associate and worked with the Operations team for three years. In 2011, she joined what is now PFLAG’s Learning & Inclusion team, and assumed a leadership role in the department in August 2023. During her tenure at PFLAG she has developed numerous workshops for a variety of PFLAG constituents including philanthropic and training partners, PFLAG chapter members and leaders, and staff. She is the primary author of a “PFLAG Gives Back: A Guide to Chapter Based Community-Service Programs.” She also played an integral role in PFLAG’s “Something to Talk About Live” series, a web-broadcast that ran weekly from March2020 – June 2023 and became the host of the series in August 2023.
Jamie attended Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA, where she majored in Political Science and International Studies with a concentration in Social Justice Studies. While completing her undergraduate degree Jamie interned with the Richmond Peace Education Center and Hope in the Cities. While working with RPEC she worked on initial research for the organization’s “Peace Curriculum” and organized a forum called “Torture and the War on Terror.” At Hope in the Cities, her work was primarily focused on The Connecting Communities Fellowship Program. She also received her master’s degree in political science from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA.
Jamie lives in Portland, OR with her cat and enjoys day hiking (but not backpacking) and everything else that the Pacific Northwest has to offer.
